There are several reasons why your Chevrolet Captiva might shut off while you're driving and then refuse to start. Some common causes include:

Fuel system issues: If your fuel pump is not delivering enough fuel to the engine, it can cause the engine to stall.
Ignition system issues: A faulty ignition coil, spark plug, or ignition control module can cause the engine to stall.
Engine sensors: A malfunctioning crankshaft position sensor or camshaft position sensor can cause the engine to stall.
Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor: A dirty or failed MAF sensor can cause the engine to stall.
Engine management system: If the Engine Control Module (ECM) is malfunctioning, it can cause the engine to stall.
