They can be identified with a number that states the maximum current they can withhold. Once this current is surpassed (due to an overload or a short-circuit), the fuse breaks down and interrupts the flow of the current. The location and function of each fuse is stated in the owner's manual of the car or in the plastic lid of the fuse box.
The issue may be caused by a malfunction in the instrument panel, the wiring between the instrument panel and the engine control module, or the engine control module itself. It's possible that during the work that was done on your truck, a wire or connection was disconnected or damaged, which is causing the problem. However, it's also possible that there is a failure in one of the control modules, a blown fuse, or a problem with the instrument cluster.
