How does the NISSAN Intelligent Key® work in your 350Z?

How does the NISSAN Intelligent Key® work in your 350Z?

In short:
Your car will only start with the intelligent keys that were registered in its electronic system. You can also add additional keys if you lost one.

The NISSAN Intelligent Key® is a remote key that includes two pieces: an intelligent key and a conventional key inside. The physical key serves as a backup in case the Intelligent Key’s battery dies. It can also be used to lock the glove compartment and the trunk. Each key set includes a specific code that will be used to reconfigure new keys if you lose all of them. As long as you have an original Intelligent Key, you will be able to reconfigure other alternative keys without even using this code. Your car will only start with the intelligent keys that were registered in its electronic system by an official Nissan car dealer.

The car will recognize the Intelligent Key when it is inside of the cabin or less than 5 feet away from the doors or the trunk.

To unlock your car’s doors, you just have to get close to them with the key in your pocket and press the button on the door handle. If you press it once, only the door on the driver’s side will be unlocked. If you press it twice, all doors will unlock.

When you enter the cabin, the car will detect your key and will allow you to activate the main push-button ignition. All of this happens while your key is still in your pocket.

If you get out of the car and leave the keys inside and lock the doors with the button on the handle, an alarm will activate, and the doors will not lock. This will allow you to get your key back. This will also happen if you leave your keys inside the trunk.

The buttons of the Intelligent Key work at a maximum distance of 30 feet away from the car. The Key will not work properly if the trunk lid or the doors are ajar.

About NISSAN Intelligent Key®’s functions

A: Remote start. Press the B button to lock the doors and then keep the A button pressed to start the engine. The hazard lights will turn on automatically and the engine will stay idling for 10 minutes. If you want to add 10 more minutes to this period, just repeat the process. To stop the engine, press A until the hazard lights turn off.

B: Door locking system. When you get out of the car and the doors are closed, this button will lock all the doors. The horn will beep once to confirm that the order was executed.

C: Door unlocking system. If you press the button once, the door on the driver’s side will unlock, and the lights and horn will activate for a short period. If you press the button again, all the doors will unlock. Depending on the version of your Nissan device, if you press this button, you can also roll down the windows.

D: Trunk unlocking function. Press the D button to open the trunk lid. This will not work if the push-button ignition is on. If your Nissan car has a power liftgate, with this button you will also be able to close it.

E: Panic alarm. When you press this button, all the lights of the car will turn on, and the alarm will trigger. This will work as a dissuasive meassure if you feel threatened or if you think there is a high chance that you are about to get robbed. If you want to stop this alarm, press any of the buttons of the intelligent key.

How to deactivate the beep?

Press buttons B and C at the same time for at least 2 seconds. Your car’s lights will blink once to confirm this change has been implemented. To reactivate it, you just have to repeat this process.

To know more about this, read the owner's manual.
