I drove to work and turned off my truck to listen to the radio before I went in. I went to start my truck up to roll the windows up before I went in only there was no crank and no start without any clicking from low battery which has been tested or starter trying to turn. I went to make sure it was in part and as I pulled the key out of the ignition the instrument fell out on the dash stay on. Not only that the key will come out in any position you put it in the ignition along with whichever gear Up place it in. It's an automatic by the way. Anyway I had to go into work so I went to undo the battery cable so my battery wouldn't be dead by the time I got off work. I went back up and my key wouldn't turn in my door. Once I got in the ignition was still and still is 2 weeks later doing the same thing only I used an OBD to scanner and it gave me code c3101, P0301, P0 404, and P0304. I have the battery on my Battery Tender Plus to keep it with a good charge but I cannot figure how the key will come out of any position I turn it to along with putting it into any gear with the same results. I have a limited amount of time to check things out to narrow down my list of MANY issues it could be. I live in Kentucky and it's very cold, windy, and it has been raining for about 2 weeks now so I don't want to open up my hood and get any of the dry rotted components wet spending very little time on it. If anyone thinks that they can help me or even troubleshoot some things really quickly I will definitely get on it and back to you as soon as possible! I really mean that because I work in Ohio and it's not been easy trying to get to work and back considering I usually work 6 or 7 days a week. Plus I have to get up at 3am to hurry up to get a shower and hopefully pay someone to give me a ride to work and back. I don't get home until 5pm so please give me some ideas. I needed this done 2 weeks ago.
It was a broken actuator in the ignition column. It's just a flimsy piece of plastic that I can only find in PLASTIC of course. If anyone knows where I can get a metal one that works from some aftermarket parts distributor let me know. Thanks and I hope that this helps a lot of people. It seems to be such a big issue that Ford Motor Company should've issued a recall on this type of problem. I have seen hundreds upon hundreds of forums and videos with people who have had this same issue in several Ford vehicles leaving people stranded and some with the steering wheel locking while driving!
