Acceleration with brake pedal

Kia Sephia 1998 regular model, automatic transmission 93300 miles
Every once and a while the car actually accelerates when I depress the brake pedal! This has only happened about 3 or 4 times, over the time period of about the last month. It only happens when I am moving forward very slowly, after starting to move after being stopped. It never happens when I have been driving for a while at street or freeway speeds. On all occasions other than the last one, if I take my foot off the brake pedal (quickly) and then depress the brake pedal again (quickly), the brake pedal works normally. However, the last time this happened I had to take my foot off the brake and then re-depress it about 3 times before i got the brake pedal working normally again. This behavior scares me, because if there was anything right in front of me (e. G. , another car) when this happened, I would hit it. Several years ago I heard about this problem happening to some other car (maybe on the news, or on some euro-related web site); but didn't learn whet the ultimate cause was for that car. Does anyone know hat causes this? Because this is only a very intermittent problem, is it going to be difficult for a repair shop to diagnose and fix the problem? (That is, will I need to wait until this problem is happening all the time? I really don't want to wait that long. )
