My car it's going well when the engine light comes out

It loose the power n rejuce the power so I have stop and remove the terminal from the battery to rest it

XC90 2004 2.5tI disconnected power in the engine compartment before removing and replacing the alternator. On reconnecting the power cable to the terminal thre is no power to the dashboard instruments or starter.
