If you have an SSR that has a shifter that will move from park through all the gears but doesn't actually shift, you will most likely have a failed plastic bushing on the shift linkage. Do to the catalytic converter being right next to it it is subject to high heat and will become brittle over time eventually falling apart allowing the shift cable to become disconnected.

To fix this issue most unbolt the linkage off the trans and remove the pin that went into the bushing replacing it with a bolt washers and lock nut. The location of the problem part is between the trans pan and cat on the drivers side.
