ABS, transmission, fuel pump

Chevrolet Equinox 2007  80000 miles
I have been having lots of problems with my Chevrolet, all of them really expensive to be solved. First it was the transmission, then the ABS and now the fuel pump.

I was told the problem was the fuel pump, but after an electrician examined it, the solution was repairing the computer's failure.
Dacey from United States 9 years ago
Thank you marvin. In my case a part of it was broken but, as they are made of only one piece, it cannot be repaired.
Pete from United States 9 years ago
I had an Equinox 2005 and the cause is that the current is not reaching the pump's fuse. You should give direct electrical current to this fuse. The ABS is simply a sensor located in the tire that might need to be cleaned or changed. There is nothing problematic to worry about.
Inkman66 from Canada 2 years ago
ABS sensor is in the wheel hub/brake caliper assembly...the one in the tire is the TPS (tire pressure sensor)

Transmission failure

Chevrolet Equinox 2005
I have an Equinox 2005 and its transmission is making a terrible noise. Apparently it is oil that is required, but there is nowhere to put it.

Actually there is where to put the oil that it needs. It is located under the battery and fuse box. It looks like an hexagonal plug or screw, and it is quite hard reaching it. Note: usually the transmission failures are due to a valve body's problem; I recommend you to check it, mainly if your car jerks when starting or stopping.

Jerks SolvedSolved

Chevrolet Equinox 2007  88000 miles
When driving at 40 mph or more, the rear tires jerk. I try to speed it up but it won't accelerate. Might it be the transmission? Thank you in advance.

Change the spark plugs' wires and the jerk will stop. I recommend you to but Gargol's wiring, it is better than the agency's.
Chad34 from United States 9 years ago
Thank you very much Ree for your comments. I will now change the wires and see what happens.

ABS and TC failure

Chevrolet Equinox 2005
The ABS and TC indicators started turning on and activating, and thus when braking it feels rather rough and noisy. The wiring has been checked and, after the sensors were cleaned, it worked properly but only for two days. Thanks for anyone's help.

Disconnect the sensors and you won't have any problems. It is just like driving a car withouth ABS.
Tom80 from United States 9 years ago
The same happened to me, the mechanic changed the harness which at first sight seemed to be fine and the noise disappeared. He said this was a typical problem, that the harness breaks on its inside due to the type of wire. Try this.

Turns ON But won't shift out of PARK

Chevrolet Equinox 2019 1.5 L 60000 miles
Started with having to jump and charge a new battery (purchased and put in less than a year ago at dealership). Anytime car would be at a stop light and the auto shut off decided to turn on , and car wouldn't be able to start back up without having to jump it...
After parking it one day, it did the same thing it's been and so I jumped the battery and it turned over and started but could not get it shifted out of PARK.
The display message on dash keeps saying that I need to shift it back into park and roll drivers side window DOWN and then UP???

I haven't had a battery issue (that I know of) in my 2008 Equinox, but I have recently had the "won't come out of park" issue recently. I did watch two videos on YouTube, that told me how to disassemble my console to access the shifter. I was able to manipulate a pin as shown in videos, but to remove the console, you have to disconnect your window controls, climate controls, Onstar controls etm. Of course you can reassemble everything, but the park lock issue reoccurred the third time I drove it after taking it apart. Today, I drove it disassembled again, but it was 25⁰ and I had no heat, defrost, or ability to roll windows up the last inch, so I cut the console into 3 sections with a Sawzall. Now all controls are plugged back in,and I can still access the shifter linkage.
Of course now my dashboard blacks out and resets when I hit the brakes too hard.

Did you ever figure out the cause of the issue? I am a technician and working on someone's car with this exact issue on the same year vehicle and can't seem to figure out what is going on with it. When I connect my scan tool I am getting a loss of communication fault for the TCM. Customer said the battery was dead so they replaced the battery and now this happened and it's stuck in park.

The tcm needs to be calibrated. Actually the procedure calibrate the ecm, tps, and tcm. Remove negative cable and fuses and relays. Ecm tps and tcm. Leave off for about 30 minutes. Put cable back on with fuses out. Push the gas to the floor and turn key to accessories. Hold gas down for 20 seconds. Let off and turn key off. Remove cable. Put fuses in. Put cable back on. Foot on gad turn to accessories again hold 6 seconds. Let off gas and turn off. Turn to accessories with foot on gas hold 10 seconds. Pump 9 times on gas and turn off. Then CRANK the car Rev motor a few times. Check the idle. That was on my nissan altima.

Traction control light comes on and radio screen goes black.

Chevrolet Equinox 2015 2.4 90000 miles

If the traction control light is coming on and the radio screen is going black, it could be a problem with the traction control system or a malfunctioning component.
Here are a few things you can try:

Check the traction control system. The traction control system is responsible for helping the vehicle maintain traction on slippery surfaces. If the system is not functioning properly, it can cause the traction control light to come on. You can check the system by having a mechanic diagnose and repair any issues that may be present.
Check the battery. The battery provides power to the vehicle's electrical system, including the traction control system and the radio. If the battery is not functioning properly, it can cause the traction control light to come on and the radio screen to go black. You can check the battery by having a mechanic diagnose and repair any issues that may be present.
Check the wiring and connectors. If there is a problem with the wiring or connectors in the traction control system or the radio, it could cause the traction control light to come on and the radio screen to go black. Check the wiring and connectors for any loose, damaged, or corroded wires. Make sure all connections are secure and free of any visible damage.
If you are unable to identify the source of the problem or if the issue persists after checking these components, I recommend having a mechanic diagnose and repair the issue to ensure that the problem is properly addressed and the vehicle is safe to drive.

TC light and stalls

Chevrolet Equinox 2006  90000 miles
I have an Equinox van 2006 and it has happened many times to me that the TC light turns on and, consequently, the vehicle stalls and it won't start again. Can anyone help me please?

Allie, before it stalled, has it jerked when changing the gears? Have you tried starting with the lever in l? I ask you these questions because something similar occurred to me and it was the valves' body.
Ples from United States 9 years ago
If it jerks when changing the gears, then the TC light turns on and it stalls, your problem is in the valves body. It is solved by checking and tuning it, you don't need to change the whole transmission. I took my Equinox 2006 to an expert who did this and it is now like a new one.
morris from United States 9 years ago
This same thing happened to me and it was the valves' body. It was changed and the problem disappeared. It was rather expensive but it is nine months now since it was fixed and everything the problem has not returned.

Road Noise when driving especially at about 40+ mph

Chevrolet Equinox 2010 LT 63500 miles
Why is the 2.4 Motor so loud in the Chevy Equinox ? New transmission (unrelated) ,new tires, no wheel bearing issues. There are so many stories that have the same issues. Is it a lack of sound deadening in the body ? The same story can be read over and over ,you get a rumble at around 40MPH and it continues to 70 mph. I have put it in neutral and it doesn't change at all while coasting at 60 mph.

Spark plugs wires

Chevrolet Equinox 2006  106000 miles
Hi everyone. Due to a flood I had to drive my car into the water and two rods were twisted. The worst thing was that I took the vehicle to the mechanic and, after disassembling it completely, he said he did not know what to do. I then went to another one but, as this is not an ordinary car here in Chile, he did not know the real order of the spark plugs' wires. I know that they are labelled from 1 to 6 but still don't know how to place them. Another thing I need to do is to fill the gearbox. The car is now working but I feel it is not at its best. I will soon change spark plugs and fuel filter to see if it gets better. It lost its strength when speeding up. What should I do with all this? Thanks!

Hi buddy. First, the coils' package has the ignition order printed; each post has its cylinder number. Then, the gearbox has the filling plug under the battery, where the fuse box is located. Finally, the power loss might be due to a lack of tuning or due to dirty injectors. Hope it helps.
