Stalls when turning the air conditioning on SolvedSolved

Ford Escort 1997  97367 miles
When turning the air conditioning on, the engine goes crazy: speed suddenly drops to 550 rpm, and then raise to normal, 750 rpm. I have already checked if it has code OBD2 and it indicates that there are no code errors. The idle speed has been cleaned and the PCV valve checked and replaced. I have noticed that sometimes this failure appears even without the air conditioning being turned on, but it is less noticeable. Actually, when turning the air conditioning on, the compressor is immediately activated and the engine takes from 3 to 4 seconds to accelerate, which means that the engine reduced… Read complete

Does not regulate and stalls

Ford Escort 1998  130000 miles
I own an Escort 99, engine Zetec 1.8, and its problem is that, when warm, it does not regulate, accelerates and decelerates by itself until it stalls. After that, it starts working back normally but again, once the engine warms up, the failure appears. I've already changed the engine, spark plugs, wiring, filters, even the battery, but everything is still the same. I would appreciate it if anyone could tell me what might be wrong.

It is the Idle Air Control Valve that is failing. Good luck.

It is the butterfly valve that needs to be opened.

Your problem has to do with the sensors. Check the oxygen, water and air temperature and TPS sensors, and even the resistance that works with the throttle. If you have an acceleration sensor you should check it as well.

New engine SolvedSolved

Ford Escort 1998  30000 miles
My car's pistons, bearings, rods and gaskets have been changed, the cover has been rectified and the valves have been replaced by new ones. The engine was left 0km but it is having starting failures. It takes long for the engine to start and, once it does, it stalls. You try again but with the same result. The injection emulator does not start and my car takes gnc. What might it be happening?

Does it take both petrol and gnc? It seems as though fuel was missing. Did you check the ramp pressure?

Escort with GNC SolvedSolved

Ford Escort 1999  150000 miles
I own an Escort 99, engine Zetec CLX 16v, and would like to put GNC to it. I have been reading that there are some inconvenients with the GNC equipment in this model. Are they installing or car failures? What do you suggest? Thanks.

The engine is not prepared for gnc. With a good equipment and correct usage it works, but it is not the most advisable thing to do; sooner or later the cylinder block will need a complete repair, and even the emulators might damage the engine immobilizer system, if your vehicle has one.

I have an Escort 1998 CLX 16v with 337.000 km and, since its 40.000 km, it has been using gnc. The only inconvenient I have since had was with the idle speed valve. The rest of the things, no problems at all. So, at least considering my own experience, I would say that the problems of gas in a car are simply a myth. Actually, the only thing I've obtained with this change was to save way a lot of money; and not only in fuel, also in the exhaust system for example.

Electrical drain

Ford Escort 1991  307000 miles
I have a 91' escort. Only runs about 70 to 80 miles then dies. Have replaced battery and alternator. It only draws 12.2 when at idle. But with lights and radio falls to 11.4. Is there an external regulator? If so where is it?

With loads on...i. E Lights interiour fan...indicatorts...the volts shuld rise too 14 too 14.5 volts...this shows the alternator is doing its job right.
Boomer from United Kingdom 4 years ago
No a car pf 91 vintage...the regulator and rectifer...are all on the the altenator...you can purchase...regulator recitfer packs...for all alternators...which you can fit yourself...if you are into that kind of work...(bit of a time consuming arse too do but...is what it is end of the day).

Jerks

Ford Escort 1999  200000 miles
At the beginning, when starting in first gear, it jerked as if there was a fuel deficit. One morning, I had only driven for 2 miles, when it lost power and stalled. I tried to start it back again and, in an attempt to do so, an kind of explosion was heard and, since then, it could not be started again by no means. I think the engine must be damaged.

You should check the spark plugs wiring, being that the easiest of the failures. It would be more critical if it was a coil failure, which produces the explosions you are talking about when it starts getting damaged.

I'm having the same problem, my car will start but it won't idle. I try to push the clutch in and push the gas. Still it won't stay started. My car died while I was on the trans Canada highway, no power at all. No brakes no steering, thank God I had just slowed down and there was a turn off close. Pretty scary!! It also makes a back fire sound after I try starting a couple of times
