Stalls in high revolution ranges SolvedSolved

Honda Civic 2000  250000 miles
My car stalls out of the blue, almost every day. The curious thing about it is that since I've bought it, the check engine light has been turned on, and when it fails this light turns off, just as if the computer was reset for some minutes. When the vehicle stalls, I open the switch and check whether all the lights are on, the only case in which the car starts again. Many times it happens that I open the switch and all the lights but the check engine one are turned on, and then the engine won't start. The scanner has been connected but no code is released (only the ABS code and the Catalytic converter one). Hope someone can help me, thanks.

If the check engine light is on it means that there is some sensor which is damaged, but apparently not causing any failure in your vehicle. On the other hand, if it is off it means that the computer is not opening and thus not sending either spark nor fuel. This failure is not provided by the scanner. Now, as the computer recibes a signal from a fuse and has got a relay, you should first check this two things. After doing so, you should take out the computer and try with a different one.
erna from United States 9 years ago
Thanks, sylvester, it is just as you describe it. It seems as though the problem was the computer. It has been scanned, the computer feeding checked and apparently everything is now ok. I really don't know which was the exact solution, but it has not failed again. Thank you so much.

Stalling on startup

Honda Civic 1991 Hatchback, auto, twin carb 86000 miles
I bought this car for my son to learn to drive in. It runs well... when its going! After a few weeks of having it, it started stalling. It is very intermittent and difficult to diagnose. I have had it to our garage about 4 times so far. It appears to happen more once the car is warm. So we drive into town, it appears to be working well, then after a while come back to the car and restart it and it jerks and "misses" then stalls. Usually we need to wait 10 minutes before we can get it started again. It is very frustrating. It has had a full service, 2nd hand carbs replaced and new igniter replaced. Please help...

I am having the exact same problem! I've taken it to two mechanics and they say that everything looks fine. I read another thread that said to use fuel cleaner, so I tried that and my car started working great for about a month, but then the problem of stalling reoccured today. I'm so frustrated because I feel like it's a minor issue that can be fixed, but no one knows how to fix it. Have you had any luck?
Fiona from New Zealand 8 years ago
No, unfortunately it is still not working properly, in fact it got so bad I couldn't drive it at all and it had to be towed. It has gone to another auto electrician who is trying to figure it out by the method of elimination. In addition to the above the spark plugs have been replaced again, with a recommendation to use premium petrol. This hasn't helped. We also had meths added to the fuel to try and eliminate any water that may have been in the fuel - another suggestion that unfortunately hasn't worked either. They have found out that the spark plugs are clogging up quickly so are looking at the reasons why this may be happening. Very over this - and can't believe it is so tricky to find a reason for it.

I'm sorry to hear that. Mine got so bad that it became dangerous to drive so I actually just got a new car tomorrow. So unfortunate :(

Hybrid Honda civic 2005 SolvedSolved

Honda Civic 2005  150000 miles
Suddenly many functions stopped working: the alarm is out of order, the door locks do not respond to their button, the interior light turns on at any moment, the hybrid system seems to be always discharged, leds from the gears flicker, the entrance for the scanner doens't work and even the stereo turns off. There are no burnt fuses, any idea what it may be?

Open the hood or bonnet and there you will find some other fuses. There is one called "backup" or something similar. That one usually burns out.
augie20 from United States 9 years ago
Thank you earnest. Checked that and the problem is: fuse that I introduce, it is burnt out.

You must have a short circuit in the wiring. Is there something you have recently installed on your car? That could be the cause.
augie20 from United States 9 years ago
The last installation was the scanner and it is not working since then. The short circuit could be in its plug, right earnest?
earnest from United States 9 years ago
Most probably. You should check whether it is damaged or shorted, otherwise you'll have to change the scanner connector.
augie20 from United States 9 years ago
You were right, there was a short circuit in the connector. Thanks for your help.

You should check both internal cabin fuses and external engine fuses. You could as well check the relays.

Have you checked the fuel tank float? It is usually damaged over time; check whether it's got any holes and, if so, replace it and the marker will work again. To locate the it, if you take out the seat you will find two lids: the biggest one belongs to the pump, and the smallest one to the float.

Won't start after some time on

Honda Civic 1998  200000 miles
My vehicle works properly for up to 20 minutes and it then stalls. I wait for around 10 minutes and it starts as if nothing had happened. I've been told that the problem can be the coil, some relay which is before the coil or the fuse box. Everything is now new but the problem remains, can anyone give me a hand?

You should check both the camshaft and the crankshaft sensors. One of them must be the cause of your problem.
melinda13 from United States 9 years ago
Thank you, Jasper. I've solved it, the problem was the knock sensor and the computer's relay, in case it happens to you at any moment.

D4 light blinking and power loss

Honda Civic 1996  210000 miles
I've got some issues with my Honda Civic 96. One day the d4 light in the dashboard started blinking and the vehicle started jerking a bit when I changed it from P to R. I've been told that the problem was there was some short circuit in the wiring that reached the speed sensor. An original connector was installed in the car and the light stopped blinking, but only for 2 km. I was then told that the oil was responsible for blocking the speed sensor and that the transmission needed a full repair. I could not afford this kind of service so I kept driving it and came into another problem: a consid… Read complete

I own a Civic 2000 and when this happened to me, I was informed that there was a thick missing wire that connects the battery to the engine. Once it was installed, the accelerator worked properly and the d4 stopped blinking, but unfortunately this only lasted 4 days. The problem has returned, and I believe it is an electronic matter.
