Starts but does not accelerate

Nissan Almera 2007  138000 miles
Good afternoon, I have a Nissan Almera 2007, which starts but does not accelerate. The first failure that appeared and was detected by the scanner was a crankshaft sensor damage. It was replaced together with a coil that was failing too. The car worked properly for some days, until the engine started vibrating and losing power. This got worse with time and, today, it does not accelerate nor work properly any longer. I've checked the rear stop lights and they are working. When changing the gear to reverse the car, it usually stalls.

According to my mechanic, the car stalls either when the reverse lights are failing or when there is a damaged sensor in the reverse box. I had your same problem and, in my case, it was a failure in the reverse lights.

Power loss when accelerating

Nissan Almera 2005  115000 miles
My car does not accelerate, it loses power instead. It has been checked with three different scanners but no failure was indicated. I've checked the fuel pressure and it is 48 pounds. I've changed the positions of the camshaft and crankshaft sensors as they are the same, I've cleaned the injectors, the throttle body, the MAF sensor, but the car is still the same. Has anyone had this problem? I have my doubts with the VVT valve as, if it fails, it is not detected by the ECU and it affects the engine time and performance.

Hi, if you are still with the problem, check that the 3 of the stop lights are working, as the car loses power if one of them fails. Hope it helps and good luck.

I spent a whole day trying to find this fault and it turned out to be both brake light bulbs. Never in my 35 years as a technician have i seen this problem without a fault code. Massive Thanks to you.
naomi from United States 9 years ago
I've changed the MAF sensor for a Sentra one and the power loss problem was solved. You can try replacing yours with a Sentra or an Altima sensor, good luck.

Check air intake hose for cracks (from air filter / MAF to throttle body).
When removing for inspection, take care not to make it worse - don't pull the hose! Instead start the oppposite way - by pushing it over!
Had similar issue and found cracks on my 2001 almera.
As the car / engine accelerates, it changes relative position slightly and opens up the cracks which distrubs MAF & ECU.
Have temporarilly fixed it with self amalgamating tape.

Both the crankshaft and camshaft sensors have been replaced, but the failure remains and it keeps indicating there is a problem with the crankshaft sensor. I do not know what else to do, can you help me please? Thank you in advance.
