Oil level problems

Top problems

Car wouldn't start until I added engine oil.

Honda Accord 1997 Accord 4cyl 175000 miles
So after work I tried to start my car and it would turn over but not start. I tried multiple times with no luck. My brother in law ended up coming to help me. I told him it could be low on oil. So he added a little oil and it almost started. So he added a little more oil and it started right up. So I drove it home. My Dad checked the oil after I got home and he said it is overfilled with oil. Which doesn't make sense because it sounds good and is running good. Would this be a good indication that the sensor that checks the oil level is bad? Any suggestions are appreciated. I had recently replaced the radiator. Changed the oil, filter, air filter, atf and the battery is great.

2010 Accord LX problem

Honda Accord 2010 LX Sedan 2.4L 5M
The past two times i have brought the car in for an oil change i have been told that the oil level is below the dipstick. Both times i have brought the car in for an oil change with 20% oil life showing. Shifting from 2nd to 3rd sometimes gets "blocked". That is the only way i can describe it, you go to shift and cant get into gear, either have to go back to 2nd or back to neutral and then back in. The "double pump shift" usually works. I have also had a problem with the speaker deck rattling which i had supposedly fixed under warranty but only to have the same problem.

Issues Accord LX 4cyl 2.4L

Honda Accord 2010 LX Sedan 2.4L 5A 1000 miles
I bought my car new in 2010 honda accord 4 cylinder. I had been taking my car to get the oil changed on a regular basis to the honda dealership. Since beginning of this year, my car started making noise so it took it to dealer to check the reason. He told that me that my car is out of oil even though indicator say oil level is 70% and that is the reason for it's making sound. He told me that he could not detect the issue and bring it one more time. He temporarily fixed the issue by filling the oil. It again happened after a month and he again filled in oil but he charged me this time for filli… Read complete

Problem 2009 Accord LX-P 4dr 4cyl

Honda Accord 2009 LX-P Sedan 2.4L 5M
Engine makes whispering noise. Pulled over to find no oil on dipstick. Oil light never lit. Filled with 2. 5 quarts oil and went to dealer. Told there was a recall related to timing at start-up causing excessive oil consumption, but told that a quart of oil every thousand miles is normal. Dealer performed recall service and monitored oil several times at thousand mile intervals. Oil consumption about a quart each time and told it is normal. Vehicle went out of warranty and monitoring stopped. Vehicle now around 50k miles and oil consumption now much greater than 1 quart per thousand miles. I m… Read complete

2013 Honda Accord problems

Honda Accord 2013 LX Sedan 2.4L CVT
I bought this honda accord lx 2013 in aug 2012. About a few months later, i notice the car engine oil level keep decreasing. Then i see there are oil leak marks at the overhead cover where it is tightened to the engine block. In august 2013, i brought my car to nearby honda dealer. They kept my car for two days and said they replaced the gasket. But after one month, i still see oil leaking out at the same spot. Today, dec 16, 2013, i bring my accord back to the dealer. They told me i had to leave my car there until tomorrow (dec 17) while they are ordering another new gasket. I am extremely disappointed a persistent oil leak has happened with a brand new honda accord 2013 !!! i research on line and see this issue also happens with some other 2013 honda accord owners. *tr

Problem 2009 Honda Accord 6cyl

Honda Accord 2009 EX-L V-6 Coupe 3.5L 5A 1000 miles
I went to independence honda and asked as to why between maintenance, i was having to add oil. I was told to bring it back when it was needed, and he would document it. Come to find out, they were doing an oil consumption test. Independence honda closed and is now legends honda. He told me to bring it in and they would fix it. Gave me a loaner car. Called me back and said they would have to do a oil consumption test. They claim they only put in about a quart per 1000 miles. Regardless of what my dip stick shows. I will just need to watch my oil. I've had to have my spark plugs replaced twice in the year. Honda continues to actively conceal the defect from consumers and deny there's a known problem. *jb

Problem Accord EX 4dr 2.4L

Honda Accord 2009 EX Sedan 2.4L 5A 3000 miles
Driving on highway at 55 mpg noticed vibration coming from engine. Felt like engine mounts had failed. When i pulled into our home driveway it felt like i was driving a diesel powered car. I noticed oil light glowing. Checked oil level, nothing showed on dip stick. Under 3000 miles since last oil check. Took to dealer and complained. Checked for oil leaks-none. Flashed engine management with upgrade said service bulletin from honda should fix issue. Kept checking oil levels at each gas fill up. Noticed a quart of oil used around every thousand miles of mixed driving. By 50,000 that had dropped… Read complete

Fix 2009 Accord EX-L V-6 4dr 6cyl 3.5L

Honda Accord 2009 EX-L V-6 Sedan 3.5L 5A 4000 miles
Purchased a used 2009 honda accord from carmax in madison tennessee. In dec. 2012 check engine light came on. No oil in engine. 2009, 6 cylinder v-tech. Have monitored the oil consumption after dealer overfilled, with pictures of overfill, with milage and various pictures of the dip stick. This engine has an eco system. No permanent damage but dealer encourages an oil change every 4000 miles and not what is in the manual. *tr

Problems Accord 2010 EX 6cyl

Honda Accord 2010 EX V-6 Sedan 3.5L 5A 4500 miles
Purchased a 2010 honda in january 2010. We experienced excessive oil usage and yellow warning light on intermittently. We requested an oil change at 4,500 miles and were told not to change the first oil until the oil life showed 15%. While traveling, at approximately 7,500 miles, the vehicle oil life indicator showed about 40% use although the vehicle had no oil showing on the dipstick. The exhaust pipes were blackened. Oil was added and we were told there could be engine damage. We returned to the honda dealer who we purchased the vehicle from who advised us if the oil usage was less than a quart every 1,000 miles oil use was not excessive. We were told the car was fine and the tail pipes were not a problem. We continue to have to add oil between oil changes. *tr

Sitting at red light waiting for turn signal, car begins to rough idle. Upon turn and acceleration, car spits, sputters, jerks, jolts and would not accel properly. Engine light begins blinking. Motor runs/idles very rough. Next morning on drive in to local dealership, vsa light illuminates and stays illuminated. Tl* the contact owns a 2009 honda accord. While driving approximately 60 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact was able to drive slowly to the dealer with the hazard lights activated. The technicians advised that there was no oil remaining in the vehicle despite the oil level gauge indicating that there was over 80 percent of oil remaining in the vehicle. An oil consumption test and a software update were performed on the vehicle and the spark plugs were replaced yet, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the vehicle began to stall shortly after repairs. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

Fix 2011 Honda Accord EX-L 3.5L 6cyl

Honda Accord 2011 EX-L V-6 Sedan 3.5L 5A 4700 miles
Wife was driving at highway speed when car began to violently shake as if engine was misfiring. Check engine light came on, then severely reduced power. She was barely able to exit and make it across the access road and into a turn lane with the accelerator to the floor. Car still shook violently as she placed it in park. Dealership cannot explain shaking. Car only has 4,700 miles and was purchased new from servicing dealer. They said oil was 1. 5-2 quarts low so they topped it off. Tripped a code for a stuck solenoid in the camshaft timing system so they reprogrammed the pcm and gave the car… Read complete

2009 Accord problem

Honda Accord 2009
My 2009 honda accord ex with only 32k miles on it started to consume oil very quickly. While the % oil life remaining indicator said i have 30% life remaining, the dipstick did not register any oil on it. I'm glad that i checked, because i shudder at the possibility of a car crash due to the engine dying on the highway. When i took the car to the dealership, they handed my a printed out sheet that stated that a loss of 1 qt per 1000miles is considered normal. How is that possible??? this is a serious defect that honda does not want to admit to. *tr
