You should scan it and check the error code. It might be a broken or dirty wheel sensor, or it could be a cable that goes to the sensor making the circuit fail.

Failure while accelerating suddenly or while overtaking at more that 55 miles

Ford F-150 2003  100000 miles
When I drive at more than 55 mph it starts jerking and if I accelerate or step on the gas to overtake somebody it fails... Sometimes it takes a while to start doing this, but obviously it's not reliable if it happens every once in a while.

It might be a problem in one of the coils, that might happen for a loss of electric power in one of the pistons. You might need to use a scanner to tell you which one is the failure

I had the same problem, in the workshop they detected a problem with the spark plugs, and when they were replaced the problem was fixed. Good luck!

Problems while driving

Ford F-150 2005  250000 miles
The truck has the check engine light on, but when I start it and accelerate it I get a wrench warning light and it starts failing and loses power, and the AC stops working. I had that problem before and using a carburetor cleaning product on the admission fixed it for a long time, but now it happened again and I can't fix it.

Noise when accelerating hard, but not while doing it slowly

Ford F-150 2007  10000 miles
When I accelerate a little hard there is a thumping noise, but there is none if I do it slowly. I already changed the bracket where the wheels are attached, the differential was checked and everything seems alright. Somebody told me it might be the gearbox mounting, could it be?

Your trucks problem could be the grease that came from the factory on the slip yoke, it might need to be greased again and you won't hear that thumping noise again, that happens with the Ford trucks with double cardan.

It's very sluggish SolvedSolved

Ford F-150 2000  200000 miles
It rattles and it's very sluggish, as if something was missing. I changed the oil filter, spark plugs, cleaned the throttle body and it's still the same. The spark plugs I used are normal cheap ones, not platinum, and I calibrated them to 0.52, now it starts quickly, before it took a while. What can I do so it recovers acceleration and feels quick again?

You have to check the gas pressure in the fuel rail, this is very delicate and with a few pounds everything is already off. I had that problem with a King Ranch that didn't go over 70, I changed the fuel pump and that was it.

Gearbox failure

Ford F-150 1997  246000 miles
It makes the switch from first to second gear at very high revolutions or only when I take the foot off the pedal, and it doesn't downshift or it does it very harshly, sometimes going over 6000rpm. I've been told it's the "gearbox governor", does anybody know where it is or how to fix it?

I had a similar problem with a 1997 Lobo: at any speed it shuts off and the throttle doesn't respond, and to turn it on again I had to disconnect the negative battery cable. To fix it I had to change the TPS and clear the IAC valve which was very dirty, that seemed to fix it.

Oil indicator needle drops

Ford F-150 1994  0 miles
The problem with my Ford F 150 1994 300 engine with 6 cilinders is that the oil indicator needle started moving up and down until it drops completely. After turning it off and leaving it for around 20 minutes it works again, but half an hour later it drops again. I changed the oil filter and it worked for a couple of days, but the same problem came back again. Any ideas?

Engine noise, F150 2004

Ford F-150 2004  150000 miles
The engine of my F150 5.4 Lariat sounds as if it was diesel, and on the passenger side the engine block makes a clanking sound. When I start it it doesn't make the noise, but as soon as it warms up it starts again. I checked the cranshaft's connecting rods and everything looks fine, the timing belt is new but the noise is still there, and it vibrates and loses accelaration when you throttle it.

Engine failure, carbureted F150

Ford F-150 1987  150000 miles
Hello! I just bought a carbureted V8 Ford F150, but the problem I have is that it lacks acceleration and the engine vibrates the same as if the injectors were clogged, but obviously it is carbureted. What I haven't checked is the timing with spark plugs and cables. It was already without use for over 3 years, and to add more information it doesn't produce smoke or makes weird noises, and when it is in parking and you throttle the engine it sounds as if something was uneven.

First check that the lamps in the stop lights are working, and if they are you have to check the interrupter that is on top of the brake pedal. Normally that is the one that fails... when stepping on the pedal it should send the signal to the lights, otherwise it won't work
Tad from United States 9 years ago
I had the same problem but realized that a cable that drives the power to the trailer and lights was disconnected, check that

Engine failsafe mode turns on in the dashboard

When I try to put the autothrottle it doesn't respond and in the road if I want to overtake the overdrive doesn't kick in. I've taken it to several shops and to the dealership, but nobody found the failure. What can I do?

Automatic transmission failure

Ford F-150 2004  105000 miles
When I'm driving my truck at around 30 miles per hour, it accelerates as if it was in neutral and goes up to 3500rpm, and then it suddenly changes gears. The gearbox was already dismantled and repaired, but it continues with the same problem. It was also tested with another computer. The weird thing is that if I start accelerating from the beginning with the overdrive on there is no failure, it works perfectly. Any ideas?

The most likely cause are the poppet valves, something may be scratched and it gets stuck, that's why it delays changing gears.

My pick up does not accelerate

Ford F-150 1998  140000 miles
It started with jerks while driving; when starting gold y vibrates and then it normalizes. While driving it losed power as if choking a little, but now it got worse. It chokes while accelerating and sounds as if exploding, when I let go it keeps driving; if I accelerate again it does the same but it doesn't stall. If I turn it off for 5 seconds it works for 10 minutes and then it fails again. I alreadi cleaned the injectors, changed spark plugs, air filter, fuel filter, fuel pump, coils and their sensors. I've already had this problem for a year and they can't solve it, yesterday I scanned it and had air sensor error, but changing it didn't fix it.

If I leave it like that the engine starts vibrating badly, I have to accelerate it briefly for it to go back to normal. You have to diagnose it, maybe the oil pump is not working correctly, or the crankshaft is work out

These engines have a big defect: the gears in the camshaft wear out and damage easily, and then they make a noise as if they were diesel. I had 4 of these trucks and in all I had to change the gears, and then the problem is solved.

I took it to the dealership and they said it was the timing kit, luckily I sold it and bought the new 2015 model.

Brakes problem

Ford F-150 2005
Four months ago I bought a van FX4 with 14000km and, even though it is an all-terrain vehicle, the brakes do not work that properly. Not a heavy rain is needed for the brake discs to suffer a considerable deformation. Even more, the vibrations when braking are too evident. If anybody has had a similar problem please let me know.

You should disconnect the ABS connector, located on the driver's side next to the shock absorber's base. The ABS indicator will be on in the dashboard, and you should then try how brakes are working.
Micajah from United States 9 years ago
Change the brake discs and pads for some good quality ones, which you can buy directly from a brakes distributor center.

Did you manage to resolve the issue...if so how...
peg11000 from United States 8 years ago
This is a serious issue and warrants reporting to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). It is no fun making a right hand turn in rush hour traffic and now engine power to complete the turn, very dangerous in fact. My understanding is that 3 Ohio owners sued Ford in 2013 for some ecoboost issues, but I don't know the outcome of that case. I am interested to see if others are experiencing the same issues and will take it form there.
